The Last Buffoon

The Last Buffoon

An underground cult classic, "The Last Buffoon" is one of the funniest books we've ever read. It chronicles the life and times of the hapless Alexander Frapkin, a pulp and porn writer in 1970s New York. We meet him hard at work, churning out a new book in the "Triggerman" series (an homage and a send-up of the many action series of the time)—but soon he has to contend with publishers not paying him, an arranged marriage to someone who detests him, Mafia goons attacking him, and much more. The book brings to mind 'Portnoy's Complaint' and 'Breakfast of Champions,' but it's better than either of them—and for anyone who knows 1970s pulp, it's funnier still.
